The city of San Luis Obispo was founded in 1772 by Father Junipero Sierra and is one of California's oldest communities. Located halfway between Los Angeles and San Fransisco, San Luis Obispo is just hours from all that California has to offer. San Luis Obispo is also a cultural and recreational center. There are galleries, wineries, hiking, cycling, fishing, camping, shopping, and dining all within the city or minutes from the city.
The city has a population of 44,697 people and has an average temperature of 70 degrees thanks to the nearby Pacific Ocean. The laid back and slower paced lifestyle here have locals referring it to as SLO and they enjoy the SLO life.
With an area of 10.7 square miles, San Luis Obispo is seeped in history from it's beautiful architecutre, historic wineries, and Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa, the 5th in the California mission chain.
The city also features a regional airport with connecting flights to major California International Airports and an Amtrak train station located in the historic Railroad station.
San Luis Obispo schools are part of the San Luis Coastal Unified School District (slcud.org) and features 10 elementry schools, 2 middle schools, and 3 high schools. In addition there is also 1 community college and 1 university.
